The one that holds the cargo together while in
transit is the ratchet
straps. Also called
tie-down strap, a ratchet strap is made of sturdy materials to effectively
secure the cargo in place during transport. The ratchet strap is usually in
webbing pattern which is secured using the tie-down hardware. The tie-down
hardware plays an integral part in securing the cargo, as it is the one that
permits the ratchet strap to attach to the area where the cargo is, loop over
it, and secure it.
There are two kinds of ratchet straps in the
market: the loop ratchet straps and the two-piece ratchet strap. Both render
the basic function of holding and securing the cargo in place while in
transport, but both have distinct features and uses to cater to varied needs.
The loop ratchet strap is a single-webbing strap that is looped around the
cargo or item. Its two end points meet together at the tie-down fastener and is
fastened for security and attachment. Meanwhile, the two-piece ratchet strap is
made out of two pieces of separate webbing, and each strap has its own tie-down
hardware. The hardware is fastened at one point of the area surrounding the
cargo or item, to be connected to each other.
Ratchet strap, whether loop strap or two-piece
strap, is mostly made of polyester, as this is the kind of material that can
best handle wear and tear with less damage. There are items that can be used as
further support to ratchet strap, such as wire hook, snap hook, flat hook, grab
hook, fittings, and chains.
